The Old Catholic Church of Texas

What's New?

God is doing a new thing in Texas!

The Old Catholic Church is not new to Texas, but we’re making a fresh new start. The Texas Diocese of Saint Gabriel the Archangel is a missionary diocese formed to re-establish an Old Catholic presence in southeast Texas. Our charter from the National Church is to establish mission churches in the greater Houston area.

The Old Catholics are a fun loving bunch of folks, and we love having a good time, but we are very serious about our faith. We are a Biblical Catholic community, no longer a member of the Roman Catholic Church; our clergy are validly ordained in the Catholic tradition and faith, and our Sacraments validly administered to God’s faithful people.

So if you are looking for a church that focuses on love rather than legalism, community rather than condemnation, fellowship rather than fundamentalism, discipleship rather than dogma, then we think you can find a home in the Old Catholic Church. We are starting small, but with God’s help, and yours, we will quickly grow into a thriving, exciting community of Believers.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like more information about the Old Catholic Church, our origins and history, our faith and beliefs, and our mission in today’s world and in the future. Our clergy or staff will be happy to speak with you or pay you a visit. We would love to hear from you! Stay tuned to this web site for announcements about mission churches being formed near you. If you would like to be a part of the exciting and fulfilling experience of planting a start-up church in your community, please contact us.

Please spend some time with us, explore our site and tell us what you think. Your comments are welcome!

Ordination of Kenneth Skillern

We are proud to announce that Deacon Kenneth Skillern, director of Saint Dismas Ministries, was ordained to the Holy Order of Priests on May 17th at the Church of the Transfiguration in Houston. The Right Reverend Ted W. Smith, Old Catholic Bishop of Texas , officiated, with clergy from various Catholic and Protestant jurisdictions in attendance. The Right Reverend Winifred Blair, pastor of Transfiguration, read the Litany for Ordinations, while Father Jesse Santiago of the Catholic Apostolic Church of Antioch read the gospel lesson and assisted at the altar. The homily was preached by the Reverend Father Frank Hawkins, retired priest of the Episcopal Church, USA . A reception in the parish hall followed the service. Many thanks to all who attended and participated, and a special thanks to Reverend Blair for opening her church to this glorious event. Congratulations, Father Ken!
